How much is the solar rebate in Victoria?

 

The Solar Panel Rebate provides Victorian households with a rebate of up to 50% of the purchase cost to install solar PV panels. The rebate is up to $2,225.

For example, you buy a 6.5 kilowatt system for $6,500 then only 34% of its cost would be paid for by the Victorian Government’s solar panel rebate program.

If you have any further information, by calling Solar Victoria on 1300 363 744 or via [email protected]. To be eligible for a Victoria Solar Panel PV Rebate Program, you must meet all three of the following  prerequisites:

  • have a combined household taxable income of less than $180,000 per annum.
  • You are the owner-occupier of the property.
  • Your property valued at under $3 million.
  • You don’t have solar panels PV system on your property OR you are replacing your solar panels PV system that was installed before 1 November 2009.
You will need to submit the following documentation for your Victoria Solar Panel PV Rebate Program
  • Recent tax assessment notices
  • Your last city council rate statement
  • A completed copy of the Solar Provider Statement
Submit your proof of eligibility to Solar Victoria
 
What is the Solar Provider Statement?

Your CEC installer will need to provide you with a completed copy of the Solar Provider Statement certifying that they:

  • hold an unrestricted Class A Electrical Licence, registered with Energy Safe Victoria.
  • have had no prosecutions registered with WorkSafe Victoria in the past three years (or with an equivalent authority in another Australian jurisdiction).

If you are eligible, Solar victoria will send you an eligibility number and a link to apply for a rebate once your system is installed. STEP 2: of Solar Victoria Solar Panel Rebate Application Process - Solar panel system installation and submit your proof of installation to Solar Victoria

Made sure your appointed solar panels installer only install a Clean Energy Council (CEC) Approved solar panels system.

Then You will need to collect the following documentation from your solar provider and submit an application to Victoria Solar.

  • Certificate of Electrical Safety
  • PV Small-Scale Technology Certificate (STC) Assignment Form
  • The Distributor’s Solar Connection Form
  • Micro Embedded Generator Connection Form or Service Order Reference Number (obtained via the distributor or retailer)
  • Electrical Work Request, CR Number, or similar evidence of notification to the distributor and retailer of the solar installation
  • Tax Invoice / Receipt including total cost of system installation, any discounts, and rebates applied (e.g. STCs), and the balance paid in full by you. If the balance is subject to a repayment plan provided by your Solar Provider please ensure this is documented in the receipt or additional documentation is provided.

STEP 3: of Solar Victoria Solar Panel Rebate Application Process - Lodge your rebate application with Solar Victoria

After you have your solar panel PV system installed on your premise and have collected all those additional documentation from your solar panel installer listed on Step 2.

Then you can Lodge your solar panel PV rebate application online via the link Victoria Solar sent you on step 1.

Solar Victoria pays your solar panel rebate

It may take up to 7 weeks for Solar Victoria to approve your application and send you an email confirmation that your rebate has been processed via your nominated payment method.

Processing will take a couple of weeks from the date of approval of your rebate

Beware of Solar Panel rebate Scams (updated on 11/02/2019)

Scammers pretend to be from Australia government, bank or other well-known institution. They call, email or text you to say that you are owed money. However, first, you must pay an administration fee or similar to ‘reclaim’ the money.

They are scammers have been targeting Victorian households. Please keep in mind Solar Victoria will never ask you to provide personal details such as your banking information over the phone.
