What Is the Present Tense?
The present tense is the verb tense used to describe a current event. Like the state of being. Present Tense represents actions that occur in the present.
The present tense can also be used to describe past and future activities as well.
The simple present tense is one of several forms of the present tense in English.
The simple present tense is used to describe:
- habits
- general interests
- unchanging situations
- general truths
- general truths
- repeated actions
- unchanging situations
- emotions
- wishes
- fixed arrangements
The present tense form is used base form of the verb: (I give, you give, we give, they give) The 3rd person singular takes an -s at the end. (he gives, she gives)

- I am going to the varsity.
- Aric loves to read books.
- Lisa has been living in this area for twenty years.
- The singer is singing nicely.
- The program is going on smoothly.
- Alice prefers coffee to tea.
- Alana attends the class every day.
