How To Use “Have Been” and “Had Been” In English?

Why English Is Such a Difficult Language to Learn

I simply hate my IELTS score. Overall, I attended three IELTS (International English Language Testing System) exams till now.

All of my exams results were near to disastrous. First time I got band score 6.5, second time 6.5, third time 7.

Later, I stopped attending IELTS exam as well as focusing on results. I truly believe that I am learning English as a fun, not for any outcome. Interestingly, I feel that now I am enjoying a lot to practice English without expectations.

From my experience, I have observed that non-native English learners like me face some difficulties to learn English for some reasons.

Let me explain those reasons –

Why English Is Such a Difficult Language to Learn  We have to exert arduous effort to learn English Grammar : English Grammar is little bit tricky and there are plenty of different grammatical rules. Even lots of native English speakers don’t know grammar rules and regulation. Some people say that English grammar is not required to learn English but I think grammar is part and parcel to learn English especially for formal writing and speaking. It’s tough to remember various grammatical rules at adult age if anyone’s English basic is extremely weak like me.

Why English Is Such a Difficult Language to Learn  You must find out plenty of time for regular practice: We are busy with study, job, business or other activities. It is really difficult to find out time to learn English. Without regular practice it is gigantic task to improve speaking, listening, reading and writing skills for non-native English learner especially for whom medium of study was not English at primary and secondary level at school. To put it simply, there is no shortcut way to develop your English skill except doing regular practice.

Why English Is Such a Difficult Language to Learn  English accent varies in terms of English speaking countries: I used to face problem to understand native English speaker. There are lots of accents like British, American, Canadian, Australian, New zealand and so on. Most of the cases, native English speakers use different types of contraction forms for ease of communication which is really tough to understand for non-native speaker. Suppose, Americans asks “When did you go there? which sounds like “When di-ja go there?” It’s quite interesting that Australian pronounce brekkie instead of breakfast. After listening thousands of podcasts, ted-talk videos, radio program, tv series & movies. Now I can understand better than past but still I have some problems.

Why English Is Such a Difficult Language to Learn  English Writing is the most underrated but tough skill : Once my IELTS teacher told me, shovan, you have a bad habit to use simple sentence structure and common vocabulary all the time.English writing is extremely challenging. You can easily develop listening, reading and speaking skill but achieving writing skill is not as easy as we think. Lots of things are involved with writing such as grammar, vocabulary, punctuation, paraphrasing, collocation, sentence structure (simple, complex and compound), idioms and phrases are really important to write accurately.

Why English Is Such a Difficult Language to Learn  We love to hang around by scrolling social media, watching Youtube videos instead of reading: Usually people either scroll social media or watch youtube videos. Reading something needs patience and use our brain. So, most of the cases we avoid reading. Consequently, we don’t develop good English reading skill. I love to read books in my own native language. Later, I started to built a regular habit to read English fiction and non-fiction books. I think social media especially YouTube is a great hindrance for developing English reading skill.

Lack of proper English environment : We had a small group who used to speak in English to develop speaking skill but most of the time we were mocked and discouraged by other friends. If a person don’t live in proper English environment, he or she has to overcome lots of hurdles to enhance speaking fluency. Moreover, It’s quite hardened task to learn new vocabularies and implement it in your conversation if you don’t speak English with other people regularly.

Finding sincere and punctual speaking partner is a herculean task : Though there are lots of Apps and social media groups for finding speaking partner but finding a sincere native or non-native English speaking partner at online and offline is troublesome work. People have lack of patience, regularity and sincerity to practice. That’s the reason most of my non-native speaking partners have been vanished after continuing few days. Another factor is that usually native English speakers are not interested to practice English. But there are lots of native English speakers who are very co-operative, helpful and amazing people. You just find out the right person for practice English speaking.

We consider learning English language is hard instead of amusing activity : After all, learning English is not hard at all when you enjoy it and consider entertaining activity. The problem is that people consider English as a hard nut to crack. But we should take it as a fun. I don’t give up effort and practice listening, speaking, reading and writing everyday. If you don’t like something, you won’t able to at home in that skill. This year, I helped one my friends younger brother to speak English fluently as a part of developing my English skill. I am really impressed on him because he was learning English speaking with full of enthusiasm just like playing PUBG.

To sum up, you may face some difficulties to learn English but don’t stop trying and learning. Try to learn and implement every day new vocabularies in your writing or conversation, don’t feel shy to speak in English a lot, think in English, listen, write and read something in English regularly, evaluate your recorded speech and pronunciation in your smartphone, make new strategy and try relentlessly to upgrade your English level.
