How to improve your English speaking fluency alone?
I am not very amazing with skills but I can talk fluently in English at present! And I am still working on it!
Practice makes a man perfect!
Self talk :
Ever talked to yourself?! Yes! yourself! We all talk to ourselves! And why wouldn’t we! Who understand us better than we ourselves. Communicate with yourself in your mind. Initiate talk with yourself. You can’t always find a company or people to talk to you to master the art. When you are all alone. Talk out loud to yourself.
Change in thinking paradigm :
The language in which your thoughts are shaped in. It deeply affects you.Whatever you think about. Start thinking in English! Yes! Make sentences in English. Play with words .
Organize sentences . Infuse your sentence with that beautiful array of words you read yesterday, reading which you were disheartened for a minute for why that epic piece of work was out of your sight till then!
Gild your ideas and thoughts with proverbs and literary devices at times. They add substance to your work. Redefine your idea of looking and thinking about things! It’s somewhat like to you have to see this with an altogether new and different perspective!
Walk English. Talk English. Eat English
Because English is one amazing language!
Write:
Feel like talking to someone. Want a friend but no one is around! There , there! Don’t be disheartened. All you need a good Butterflow pen (Yes! A good flowing pen is a of utmost importance!) and piece of paper/ diary. Ah !there you go! You have much over your mind! Simply write. No one is born with skills by birth. All learn and start from the scratch. So, it your time right now.Whatever comes up in you mind, let the beauty of your thoughts run on paper.
You might run out of ways to express even after having so much over you mind to say out. Don’t worry. That’s something very usual It happens with me too. Happens with everybody!
Take a break. Read. Learn.Ponder over it! Reflect. Then think of designing your thoughts your own unique way! Polish it. It might seem the same boring stuff for few weeks or a month or so. But gradually you will see yourself evolving and getting better at it when you run back through those old pages!
Sitcoms:
I am not much into the sitcoms at present but “Friends” top up the league for me. Watch movies. Good ones. Follow them for sometime.
Get the subtitles if you are unable to catch up with them! Rewind and rewatch! Practice with the character. Go in front of the mirror! Speak out loud. Follow their accent. Soon you will find yourself competing with them!
Get a recorder:
I never did that as I was mostly lucky enough to communicate to people in person. But I have recently developed flare for singing and I have noticed that recording , editing the mistakes /flaws, correcting, redesigning and practicing through recording can help you to broaden horizons.
Share Knowledge:
Quite experienced in some field of study or other. Manage to find some leisure at weekends? Simply share it! Volunteer! Teach kids, children who are in need of some tutor or mentor! Free of charge! You will gain some experience along with getting your confidence boosted! Moreover, you will feel more alive than ever with them! They might end up some question which might leave you in days of pondering! You always get to learn from people some or the other way. Doesn’t matter a kid or an elder!
Public Speaking events:
If you are intellectual with thoughts, take part in debate events. MUN’s are one good thing happening around which offer you platform to work upon your speaking skills. But before entering into any of the public events, get your thoughts much organised and prepared! Take help of mock sessions if you feel the need to! They end up being much useful at times!
And last but not the least. Whenever you get a chance, try to initiate conversation and keep it simple. You need not to use loaded words in normal conversation.
And while talking, if you feel awkward or nervous or out of words in English, Switch your language you are most comfortable with! At the end of the day what really matters is you are able to express and deliver yourself to the other person the way you want!
After all Language is just a means of communication. And all languages are beautiful in some or the other way!I find Urdu most beautiful one. 🙂
So don’t lose hope and keep practicing. And remember talk more than you write! You will be doing great at it one day! 🙂
All the best! 🙂
