What is English Literature?
Nowadays story is generalized means daily chores reports are personal stories and happenings of the events, functions, and activities or accidents etc are held as stories of the day in news bulletins.
Similarly, reports of processes or mechanism and instructions in science and technology are also pieces of literature. No matter what we read in Science Fiction – – Stars War etc. I mean to say every draft or article is literature whether belongs to Science, Arts, Engineering and other disciplines if instructions given to the specific readers or viewers.
As university education is concerned then literature is taught mainly in four features or aspects say as Poetry, Drama, Prose, and Fiction but secondary aspects are also there I mean Literary Essays & Criticism and History of Language and Literature.
Translation from the Classics and Translation of Literary works to be taken into account. Literature gives us pleasure and arouses our emotions say as pity, mercy, catharsis, romance, horror, and purgation etc. Pictures state stories so Theme appreciating Test (TAT) developed. Hence Literature is a word of large connotation.
In Commerce, marketing advertisements are literature even erotic stories and passionate essays are pieces of literature however erotic tales are not recognized in common life but ecstasy, orgasm feelings or libidos are enjoyed at large secretly.
So literature may be confidential or clandestine reports for specific readers or viewers. Sharing views and opinions or answering are modes of explanation to transmit literature.

The Mouse and the Snake: Vikram Seth
” This poem narrates a story of the battle between a mouse and a snake in a granary where the snake swallowed a mouse and tried to swallow another mouse so he attacked several times or hissed the other mouse but it got success to hoodwink the snake both were exhausted and the snake was sliding in the hole. The other mouse saw that the snake was sliding in the hole so it attacked the snake and bit the tail end of the snake in retaliatory action the snake pulled out the swallowed mouse to kill or bite the live mouse but could not succeed so Vikram Seth wrote this poem to commemorate the bereft mouse and the victory however his fellow mouse was dead. ”

” This story is about Mr. Kelda a British national who was on a sea voyage in a ship along with the writer or narrator whose demeanor is bizarre or peculiar and is loquacious and known as Mr. Know-All but he considers it as a compliment. Mr. Ramsay wagered a hundred dollars bet with Kelda to distinguish the chain of pearls real or imitation. Kelda identified it as real but to maintain dignity and faith of Ramsay and his wife accepted the defeat and gave a hundred dollars note to Ramsay. At last, it was known that the chain was precious worth of thirty thousand dollars perhaps a gift from the lover of Mrs. Ramsay. Ramsay went to Japan with his wife without a fraction or break up because the secret was not disclosed. ”

” This is a crime story where an old woman Mr Parker hammered to death and Mrs Salmon and other three witnesses deposed against the accused Mr Adams but the defense lawyer saved Adams putting the plea of Alibi and Benefit of Doubts however the court acquitted Mr Adams as he was twin brother but his one brother was crushed under the bus out of the court as a Divine Justice and nobody knows that he killed brother was innocent or murderer. ”

” This is a lyrical poem written by Robert Frost and natural symbols used here say as falling snow, woods, evening, night, horse and sleep etc. Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru was impressed by this poem. Life is a journey with a purpose and tiresome poet wishes to escape in Dream Land of Death or Woods but there is a lot of work unfinished so he is having promises to complete the various tasks. ”

” An Astrologer’s Day is written by R K Narayan here he wrote story of a roadside astrologer of a village of south India that he stabbed his friend in adolescent and threw him in a dry well of a field and thought that his friend was dead so he ran away from his home and resided in another town. His friend came in search of him to take revenge and he wanted to choke astrologer but astrologer identified him and escaped from revenge misleading his friend. ”
